He briefly dated American model Maika Monroe in 2016.

Early career

Throughout his early 20s, Holbrook worked several odd jobs. He once worked unloading plans for  UPS in Louisville, Kentucky after high school to pay for college. He later moved to Louisville where he worked in a graveyard. Since this work shift was not over until 8 p.m., after which he attended classes, he dropped out of school.

Model

Holbrook was discovered by a modeling agent while he was working part-time as a carpenter at Jenny Wiley Theatre, Kentucky. He took the offer and was eventually signed with Elite Models in 2001 and later at Wilhelmina Models. He has found success in the modeling industry and has worked with major brands such as Calvin Klein, Gucci, Hugo Boss, Moschino, Jean Paul Gaultier, Dsquared², Versace, and Marc Jacobs.

Alongside model Tiah Eckhardt, he appeared in the band Permanent Me’s music video for Allison.

Boyd Holbrook began his career as an actor after taking acting classes at the William Esper Studio's two-year Meisner Acting Program followed by Shane Ann Younts' two-year voice and speech program. 

His debut screen role was in the 2008 film Milk as Denton Smith. This was followed by minor roles in the TV series The Unusuals (2009), The Big C (2011), Hatfields & McCoys (2012), etc., and in the films Higher Ground (2011), Very Good Girls (2013), Gone Girl (2014), Jane Got a Gun (2015), Morgan (2016), among others.

Finally, in 2015, Holbrook was cast as the recurring character Steve Murphy in the TV series Narcos. He portrayed the character for a total of 20 episodes and is his breakthrough role.

Since then he has starred in the films Logan (2017), The Predator (2018), In the Shadow of the Moon (2019), The Cursed (2021), Vengeance (2022), The Bikeriders, The Thirst, Last Meals, etc. Boyd Holbrook also has appeared in the episodes of the TV series The Fugitive (2020), The Sandman (2022).
