Growing up, he lived with his mother in Celina, Texas, and later moved in with his father in Van Alstyne, Texas. He played high school basketball but was not much good at it. So, instead, he learned from the school’s football coaches. He has not shared anything about his siblings.

Buzz Williams – Career
Buzz Williams started his career as a football coach in 1994. He was employed at Texas–Arlington as an assistant coach, a position he held until 1998. From 1998 to 1999, he worked as an assistant coach at the Texas A&M–Kingsville.
This was followed by an assistantship in Northwestern State (1999-2000), Colorado State (2000-2004), Texas A&M (2004-2006), and New Orleans (2006-2007).

In 2007, Buzz Williams was named the assistant coach for the Marquette Golden Eagles for a year. In 2008, he was promoted to head coach and worked in the same post until 2014. In 2014, he joined Virginia Tech men’s basketball team, working there until March 2019.
On April 3, 2019, it was announced that Buzz Williams would be leaving Virginia Tech to work as the head coach for Texas A&M.
