Who is Nicky Whelan?

Nicky Whelan is an actress, model by profession, and Australian by nationality. She is best known for starring in the Australian soap opera Neighbours as Pepper Steiger.

Nicky Whelan’s birth took place on 10 May 1981 in Cranbourne, Victoria, Australia. She was born to her father Bill Whelan and her mother Caroline Whelan. Her grandfather is Marcus Whelan, who played in the Victorian Football League in the 1930s and '40s.

She is not the only child of her parents and has three older siblings – sister Katie Brannigan and brothers Sean Whelan and Brett Whelan.

Following graduation from high school, Nicky Whelan went on to study at Padua College.

Whelan got engaged to her American football player boyfriend Kerry Rhodes, which was announced in 2016. They married in Los Angeles on 15 April 2017 in a lavish ceremony. She and her husband do not have any children together. However, in October 2017 it was rumored that they were divorcing, which turned out to be true.

She is in a relationship with Canadian actor Kyle Schmid and has been dating since mid-2019. However, this relationship ended in 2020.

Currently, she is believed to be single.

Nicky Whelan – Career

Early Days

Before Nicky Whelan ventured into acting, she worked as a model. She has posed for numerous  Australian magazines including FHM (October 2007), Ralph (November 2005), and Inside Sport. 

Her first work in TV was as a host in the shows Coxy's Big Break, Beyond the Boundary, and Melbourne Woman, followed by the role of Chrissie Grant in Russell Coight's Celebrity Challenge. She also hosted night racing at Moonee Valley for eight years.

Finally, in 2006 Nicky Whelan landed the regular role of Heidi "Pepper" Steiger in the TV series Neighbours (2006-2007). She portrayed the character for a total of 129 episodes which is her breakthrough role.

Over the years Whelan has appeared in dozens of TV series and films. The films in which she has been credited include The Outside (2009), Hall Pass (2011), Paranormal Movie (2013), The Wedding Ringer (2015), Inconceivable (2017), and Trauma Center (2019) as Madison Taylor.

Moreover, she has had a recurring role in the TV series Scrubs (2009-2010), Chosen (2013), Satisfaction (2015), House of Lies (2016), etc. In recent years Whelan has worked in TV films including Hallmark’s Romance at Reindeer Lodge (2017), A Christmas Arrangement (2018), Lifetime’s InstaPsycho (2020), and Secrets at the Lake (2020).
