SonoyaMizuno was born on 1 July 1986 in Tokyo, Japan. Her father Hajime Mizuno is Japanese and the name of her Argentinian-British mother is yet to be known to the public. She is not the only child of her parents and has five siblings- sisters Saya Mizuno, Jinya Mizuno, Mariya Mizuno, Miya Mizuno, and brother Tomoya Mizuno.

The Mizuno siblings were raised in the English countryside of Somerset with their single mother. After their mother passed away the older siblings looked after the younger ones.

In 2014 Sonoya Mizuno worked in the dance theatre play The World's Greatest Show which was staged at the Greenwich Dance as well as the Royal Opera House.

Sonoya Mizuno began her career as a model at the age of 20. Throughout her career, she has worked with global fashion brands and magazines including Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Saint Laurent, and Louis Vuitton.

She eventually turned her professional career into acting. Her debut screen role was in the 2012 film Venus in Eros. This was followed by minor roles in the films Ex Machina (2014), La La Land (2016), Alleycats (2016), Beauty and the Beast (2017), Annihilation (2018), Crazy Rich Asians (2018), Ambition (2019), Am I OK? (2022), Shortcomings, Don't Forget, and Mouse Guard, to name a few.
