She was born on September 12, 1997, in Spokane, Washington, USA.  Her mother Lisa Mudd Sweeney worked as a lawyer while her father Scott Sweeney works in the medical field. Her parents raised her alongside her sibling, younger brother Trent Sweeney. Actor Robert Vaughn is her distant cousin.

Early Days

Sweeney’s interest in acting began when she observed an independent film shooting in her hometown. She eventually convinced her parents to support her in her career to become an actress. So, to help with her auditions, the family temporarily moved to Seattle and then to Portland. There Sydney Sweeney began to book commercial acting jobs. They late relocated to Los Angeles when she was 14 years old.

Her first roles were in the films ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction (2009), The Ward (2010), Angels in Stardust (2014), The Martial Arts Kid (2015), Under the Silver Lake (2018), etc and in the episode(s) of TV series Criminal Minds (2009), 90210 (2010), Grey's Anatomy (2014), Pretty Little Liars (2017), among others.

Finally, in 2018, Sydney Sweeney was cast as the main character Emaline Addario in the TV series Everything Sucks!. She appeared on ten episodes of the series and is considered her breakthrough role.
