Taylor Schilling is a multiple award-winning actress by profession and an American by nationality. She is well known for starring in the TV series Orange Is the New Black as Piper Chapman and in the films Dark Matter, Atlas Shrugged: Part I, The Titan, and Take Me.

Taylor Schilling was born on July 27, 1984, in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Her full name is Taylor Jane Schilling. Her mother, Patricia Schilling, worked as an MIT administrator while her father, Robert J. Schilling, was a prosecutor. She is not the only child of her parents and has a sibling, a younger brother named Sam Schilling.

Raised by divorced parents, she grew up in  West Roxbury and Wayland.

In 2002, Taylor Schilling graduated from Wayland High School. She went on to study at Fordham University's campus at Lincoln Center, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2006. She joined the graduate program at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts but dropped out after her second year.

Early Days

Schilling began acting at a young age, taking part in her middle school's theatre program. While she attempted to land her breakthrough role, she worked as a nanny for a Manhattan-based family to support herself. She eventually won the Emerson College Playwright's Festival Outstanding Performance Award.

Taylor Schilling’s debut role was in the 2007 film Dark Matter as Jackie. This was followed by appearances in the films Atlas Shrugged: Part I (2011), Argo (2012), The Lucky One (2012), Stay (2013), etc. Her portrayal of Veronica Flanagan Callahan in the TV series Mercy gained wide recognition, while her role as Piper Chapman in the TV series Orange Is the New Black (2013-2019) was her breakthrough role.
