Tim Roth’s birth name/full name is Timothy Simon Roth. He was born on 14 May 1961 in Dulwich, London, England. His father is Ernie Roth, a painter, Fleet Street journalist, and former British Communist Party member. His mother is Ann Roth, a painter, and a teacher. The family name was previously Smith but his father changed it to German/Jewish Roth. There is no info on his siblings.

Growing up, Roth had a born talent for picking up accents, which he greatly benefited from later in life.

Roth attended Strand School, a boys’ grammar school located in Tulse Hill. As he wanted to become a sculptor, he enrolled at  London's Camberwell College of Arts. But he dropped out. 

His ethnicity includes English and Irish.

Tim Roth got into a relationship with Lori Baker in the early 1980s. They have a love child together, a son named Jack Roth, born on September 1, 1984. Jack Roth is also an actor like his father.

After dating, he married his girlfriend Nikki Butler on January 25, 1993. The couple has welcomed two children together- both sons. Their first son was born in 1995 and is named Timothy Hunter Roth while their second son named Michael Cormac Roth was born in 1996.

As of now, he is happily married to his wife with no rumors of extra-marital affairs or divorce.

Tim Roth – Career

Early Days

Although Tim Roth wanted to become a sculptor and studied for it, he gave into acting at the age of 21. So, he moved to Los Angeles where he caught the attention of director Quentin Tarantino. His first role was as Trevor in the 1982 film Made in Britain. He then portrayed roles in King of the Ghetto in 1986 and Meantime in 1983.

Gradually Roth had appearances in Murder with Mirrors (1985), The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1989), Vincent & Theo (1990), Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead (1990).

Films, Series

These roles were followed by him playing Mr. Orange in Reservoir Dogs (1992), a robber in Pulp Fiction (1994), Ted in Four Rooms (1995), and Archibald Cunningham in Rob Roy which earned him a BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, a Golden Globe nomination, an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Tim Roth also has starred in Everyone Says I Love You (1996), The Legend of 1900 (1998), Gridlock'd (1990), Planet of the Apes (2001), Youth Without Youth (2007), Funny Games (2007), The Incredible Hulk (2008), Fox’s Lie To Me (2009-2011), United Passions (2014), Chronic (2015), The Hateful Eight (2015), Once Upon a Time In Hollywood (2019), among others.

Tim Roth has also worked as a director. His directorial debut The War Zone was released in 1999.

Tim Roth – Sexual abuse survivor

Tim Roth is a survivor of sexual abuse. He first revealed the dreadful news in 1999, during the press meeting of The War Zone. He shared that the abuse started in his childhood and continued until his early years. 

The movie dealt with incest and sexual violence within the family. But at the time, he did not name the perpetrator. 

Only in December 2016 did he share that his perpetrator was actually his paternal grandfather, who had also assaulted his own father when he was a child. He revealed this in an interview with The Guardian, a British newspaper.
