Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is an actor, architect by profession, and American by nationality. He is best known for starring in The Get Down, The Greatest Showman, Aquaman, and Watchmen.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s birth took place on July 15, 1986, in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. The religion of his late father Yahya Abdul-Mateen I is Muslim while his mother Mary Louise is a Christian. He is not the only child of his parents and has five older siblings- older brother Cali Din, older sisters Nikki, and Dorothy Mae, and older twin sisters Khadijah Abdul-Mateen and Zakiyyah.

He spent his childhood in the Magnolia Projects of New Orleans and later grew up in Oakland, California.

For education, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II attended McClymonds High School. Following graduation, he went on to study at the University of California, Berkeley where he earned a degree in architecture. Abdul-Mateen later joined Yale School of Drama and received a Master of Fine Arts degree.

Early Days

For years Yahya Abdul-Mateen II worked as a city planner in San Francisco. As he had always wanted to become an actor he studied at Yale School of Drama, after which he began working as a stage actor. 

After a minor role in the 2012 short film Crescendo,  Abdul-Mateen starred in the TV series The Get Down (2016-2017) as Clarence "Cadillac" Caldwell.

Since his debut TV role, he has portrayed characters in numerous TV series and movies. The movies in which he has starred include The Vanishing of Sidney Hall (2017), Baywatch (2017), The Greatest Showman (2017),  Aquaman (2018), Us (2019), All Day and a Night (2020), Candyman (2020), The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020), The Matrix 4 (2021). 

In the TV series, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has had appearances on the episodes of The Handmaid's Tale (2018), Black Mirror (2019), and Watchmen (2019) as Cal Abar / Jon Osterman / Doctor Manhattan.
